Caribou Crossing claims to be the first Canadian single-barrel whiskey. Caribou Crossing has many aesthetic similarities to Blanton’s single barrel. Including a caribou at the top of the cork instead of the Blanton’s racehorse.  Produced by the Sazerac Company, Caribou Crossing is bottled at the Old Montreal Distillery in Quebec. This whiskey is carefully selected from a vast inventory of barrels, ensuring that only the finest make it into each bottle.

Tasting Notes:

Nose

On the nose, Caribou Crossing presents an inviting bouquet of vanilla, caramel, and soft spice. There’s a subtle corn undertone—complemented by a gentle hint of marshmallow and oak. The aroma is well-balanced and indicative of the smooth experience to come.

Palate

The first sip reveals a light and creamy texture. Flavors of sweet caramel and vanilla are prominent, with layers of corn and toasted oak following closely. There’s a slight spiciness from the rye, which adds depth without overpowering the palate.

Finish

The finish is short but warm and satisfying. leaving a lingering sweetness and a delicate spice on the tongue. The oak influence becomes more pronounced, offering a slight tannic bite that balances the sweetness perfectly.

Overall Impressions:

Caribou Crossing Single Barrel is a whiskey that has an appealing place in the liquor cabinet. Its smoothness and balance make it an excellent sipper, while its complexity invites exploration. It is a good whiskey for a new drinker getting into Canadian whiskey and single barrel whiskey. This whiskey may not be interesting to experienced consumers but could be a good introduction whiskey and a smooth daily sipper.
